New England Club (NEC) Worship with MWPC (Mt. Washington Presbyterian Church)

Held monthly on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays (when there is a 5th Sunday) at 4 PM. This complements the 2nd and 4th Sundays worship by another local Protestant church so NEC residents have an available worship service each Sunday afternoon.

MWPC began this worship in May, 2008 on the 1st Sunday of each month, expanding by adding 3rd and 5th Sundays in May 2009.

During the worst of the Covid pandemic – March 2020 through April 2021 – MWPC hosted weekly worship on ALL Sundays via Zoom in the NEC Theater Room (the other local Protestant church was not able to support worship on the even-numbered weeks.) While Zoom was not like being there, it was an effective way to worship God in such situations. Our NEC partner, Steve Vietze, was incredibly supportive of these efforts by making these worship experiences a priority (thanks Steve!) Zoomin’ also offered unique opportunities: Steve L’s mom could join from NW Ohio, two pre-HS sisters did recorded readings, we involved music from various sources, etc..

The worship leadership team has been been a blessing over the years. We’ve included high school students, nonagenarians and many with ages in between. Some have been family members of residents; most have been MWPC members. While undoubtedly missing someone (please let me know who!) – with a MAJOR note of thanks for their efforts, here goes with a listing of leadership team members: Steve L., Laura H., Jim D., Bill T., Gail K. (including playing the organ regularly!), Sheri K., Merle N., Sue R., Dick Y., Bobbie N., Marianne B., Betty Lou H., Kathleen S., Marilyn K., Kendall H., Andrew C., Toni P., Marilyn L., Dave Ri. (trumpet,) Steven B., Ann Marie A., John S. plus support from these pastors: LP, Rhonda, Mary Gene (and Rick,) Junie, Barb, Debbie, Denise and Cherie.

The worship format is a relaxed combination of scripture, prayer, song, messages plus a heavy dose of community support and contribution. We’ve been blessed by creation of a worship booklet by our leaders which has been professionally published by MWPC staff. Communion is led by MWPC pastors on a regular basis (usually about 6 times a year)
